Synopsis
Shri S. N. Navare has a very significant role in Marathi literature. In his long career, he has been very successful in all the major genres of writing, such as short stories, novels, plays, and newspaper columns. He has earned a great name as a playwright and scriptwriter for cinema and TV serials as well. Shanna has received several awards for his writing.
This film “Goshtivelhal Shanna” is an attempt to know everything about this highly popular multifaceted personality, where he humbly shares his experiences, his philosophy of life, his writing process and more precisely his feelings for the common man. The film brings moments to life in the form of clippings, such as rare footage of Marathi Theatre Conference at Karad and Dombivili, where he was honored as President of the Marathi Natya Sanmelan and some clippings his famous films.

The movie is set during recent times in which there are a large number of Afghan refugees living on the outskirts of Tehran. Almost a silent movie, Baran won a number of awards both nationally & internationally for Majid Majidi.
Synopsis
Lateef's, 17 yr, job is to serve tea and prepare food for the building construction workers managed by MEMAR, the site foreman. Some workers are Afghans refugees who are employed illegally and must hide When the labour inspectors show up. An Afghan worker, NAJAF, falls from the building and breaks his leg. The next day, SOLTAN, another Afghan worker, brings in RAHMAT, Najaf's son, who is around 14 to replace his father. Tension developes between Lateef and Rahmat. One day Lateef is totally shocked to discover that Rahmat is a girl ! From there on his attitude changes completely, he becomes protective, helpful and gradually desperately in love with Rahmat. While Rahmat does not express herself verbally at all, with time she seems to respond to this love. After a surprise visit of the labour inspectors Rahmat flees and Lateef is beaten up and taken to the police station. Memar has to pay a fine and lay off all Afghans. Lateef can't bear Rahmat's absence and is distressed when he sees her working very hard and wants to find a way to help her out .
He gets all his accumulated wages from Memar and hands them to Soltan asking him to pass them on to Najaf. But Najaf lets Soltan have it and go to Afganistan. Lateef is shocked and worried. He overhears a conversation that Najaf's brother has just been killed in the war. He also hears that Rahmat's real name is BARAN. Lateef feels powerless as he cannot help her. Najaf begs Memar to lend him some money ,without success. Lateef sells the only valuable things he still has, his identity card. Thanks to this money, Najaf and his family are returning to Afghanistan. Lateef is overwhelmed by this news. The next day in a dreamlike atmosphere, Lateef, is finally face to face with Baran. Through eye contacts and physical proximity they exchange their love...
